My main interests lie in a strong involvement with colour, in the qualities of paint application and in the spaces and forms created on the surface of the canvas. Through the layering of colours and mark making, I encourage the viewer to explore into and through the painting. My work is about the process of creating a painting; my engagement with my materials, the beauty of colour, and a study into the passage of time, through the history of making a painting. Chance occurrences that happen while painting, the traces of lines and marks, the freedom of brushstrokes and the random blurring of paint - all these elements work alongside the considered placement of colour and contribute to the creation of my paintings and the narratives which they thereby create. My aim is to achieve a play of balance, depth and surface texture to create rich and inviting paintings.
