I'm going to hell and there's nothing I can do to stop it. Often anthropomorphic in scale, my work references influences as diverse as gothic horror cinema to domestic craft and household objects like tables, chairs, lampshades and music speakers. Influenced by artists such as Giovanni Anselmo (Torsione) and the morbid tactility of films like Dog Soliders and The Blair Witch Project, my recent studio work has involved re-constructing singular shamanistic declarations, tribal signs almost, that hint at something greater and more sinister. I aspire to a kind of dark green, stage-set theatricality, a macabre snippet of log cabin horror film legend set in the deep dark overgrown woods of nowhere in particular. In the middle-space between things is where I hope to discover a cool internal coherent logic. Unnervingly confrontational and yet intimate in sincerity, this is where the real battle lies. |
