I am a painter, and my subject matter is drawn from contemporary society, what I see, what I imagine I see, a synthesis of transient sensations...Currently, people in mainly urban settings – often isolated in shopping centres, high streets, airport lounges, modern utopias. I am influenced by the distance I have on this subject. I live and work currently, in a rural backwater in central Italy. I like the distance this gives me to the subject, enabling me to mythologize my urban existence. I also like the light out here, and the freedom involved in describing something from such an isolated position. I am a romantic painter, and as such regard distance as appropriate. There is a tension I derive from this opposition that I believe informs my work. The recent work is of the figure on an intimate scale. My sources are various, there are no rules to this, some images come from first hand experience, but many are drawn from the flood of media images commonly available. The means used to make these pieces is, I feel in some ways analogous to the content. I access whatever means I find effective at the time.
